Why Cyprusdoesn’t count

Cyprus is outside the Schengen Area. While you're physically in Cyprus, the 180-day rolling window keeps moving: old Schengen days fall out of the window even though you've left. Many nomads use Cyprus as a 'reset' destination when they're close to the 90-day limit.

Reset trip tip

Tip: combine the calculator with a quick trip to Cyprus when you're approaching 90 days. We'll show you the earliest date you can return to Schengen.

Reset in Cyprus, the practical version

Cyprus buys you 90 days back in the Schengen Area clock. It’s the go-to spot for a quick reset when you’ve hit your 180-day limit elsewhere in Europe.

Who walks in visa-free

Most Western passports get you 90 days visa-free. This includes the US, UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. EU citizens don't need a visa at all, naturally. For others, it varies. Indian and Chinese passport holders typically get 30 days on arrival, sometimes less†. Always check the specific entry requirements for your nationality before booking flights.

What makes Cyprus actually workable

Expect to spend €1000 to €1500 per month, give or take. This covers a basic apartment and living expenses. Internet is generally reliable, especially in the main cities. Nicosia and Limassol are where most nomads set up shop. They offer a decent mix of co-working spaces, cafes, and amenities. Cyprus feels safe; petty crime is low, and violent crime is rare. It’s a straightforward place to base yourself for a few weeks.

Common traps to avoid

Don't assume a same-day hop into Northern Cyprus counts as a Schengen reset. It doesn't. You're still on the island. Extensions within Cyprus itself are rarely granted for tourist visas. You need to leave the island to reset your 90/180 window. Always have a confirmed onward ticket out of Cyprus; border guards can and do ask for proof. The Euro is stable, so currency volatility isn't a concern here, unlike some other reset locations. Banking is standard, and Wise works fine for transfers. Pacing your stay with a Schengen calculator is smart; don't get caught out by a miscalculation.
