If you are staying beyond a tourist entry, that is the route, not a string of extensions.

There haven't been major changes to the visa-free entry periods for the main passport blocs in the last 12-18 months, and the Welcome Stamp has been extended rather than wound down. Fees and the income floor are set by the government and periodically revised, so read them off the official page rather than a nomad blog. The practical call is simple: a few weeks on the beach runs on the tourist stamp, anything that looks like living here runs on the Welcome Stamp.
