Citizens of most Arab League countries also get this 30-day visa on arrival. This includes Jordan, Saudi Arabia, UAE, and Egypt. Keep your passport handy; immigration officers will check.

If your passport isn't from one of those regions, you're likely in the "visa required in advance" camp. This means a trip to a Lebanese embassy or consulate before you even think about booking a flight. Processing times vary, so don't leave this to the last minute. They're not known for speed.

How Long Can You Actually Stay?

That 30-day visa on arrival is your starting point. It's generally a single-entry stamp. Want to pop over to Cyprus for a weekend and come back? You'll need a new visa. The rules around double-entry on tourist visas are murky. Better to assume you can't and plan accordingly.

Extending your stay is possible. You'll need to visit the Directorate of General Security (DGS) in Beirut. Extensions are typically granted in 15-day increments. You can usually get up to three months total on a tourist visa. The process involves paperwork and a fee, which fluctuates but is generally around 200,000 LBP† per extension. Don't miss your exit stamp date; penalties are steep. Overstaying can lead to fines and potential future entry bans. While specific fines aren't always publicly stated, expect them to be a significant portion of your daily budget.

Working Remotely on a Tourist Stamp

Here's the grey area everyone working remotely asks about: can you actually work on that tourist visa? Officially, no. The visa is for tourism. Lebanon doesn't have a dedicated digital nomad visa or remote worker visa program. However, enforcement is where things get interesting.

Most travellers here on a tourist stamp who are working on their laptops in cafes or co-working spaces fly under the radar. Lebanese immigration focuses on entry and exit stamps, not on what you're doing with your laptop in between. You won't see random checks at cafes. The risk is low, but it’s not zero. If you're asked by an immigration officer about your purpose of visit, stick to tourism. Having a return ticket booked can help solidify your tourist status.

What's New in Lebanon's Entry Rules?

Lebanon has been working on modernizing its entry procedures. For a while, there was talk of an eVisa system, but it hasn't fully materialized for most nationalities. The visa on arrival for key nationalities remains the standard. Fees for extensions and other services do change, often tied to the fluctuating exchange rate.
