Extending your initial 30-day stay is possible, but it requires an application to the Directorate General of Immigration and Emigration in Kigali before your current visa expires. They might grant an additional 30 days, but it's not automatic. Remember, a single-entry visa means if you leave Rwanda and plan to re-enter, you'll need a new visa.

Can you actually work remotely on a tourist visa?

This is where things get murky. Officially, working while on a tourist visa in Rwanda is not permitted. You're supposed to be there for tourism or visiting family. However, enforcement is often light, especially if you're not drawing attention. Authorities are more focused on people trying to find local employment. Many remote workers operate on their tourist visas without issue, using co-working spaces in Kigali or cafes. Just be aware that if you're asked about your purpose of visit, it's best to stick to tourism. Don't advertise your remote work.
